COMMON
POST-PROGRAMME ACTIVITIES To
renew their pledges to strengthen friendship
and mutual understanding established during
the ship's programme among the ex-participants,
the SSEAYP International had organised SSEAYP
International General Assembly (SIGA), an annual
gathering of all the alumni at member countries
by rotation. Besides that, each alumni association
continues to organise their own activities in
their countries.
It was in the 1993 SIGA that the idea of creating
common activities was mooted out to cater for
the diversified interests and hobbies of the
alumni.
The common activities set up at earlier stage

ACTIVITIES
6.1
ECO-TOURISM
tourism industry should be managed on the
concept of sustainable development in the
light of increasing demand in eco-tourism.
The growing popularity of eco-tourism had
made sustainable development imperative.
The nature tourism had even motivated the
United Nations to designate 2002 as the "International
Year of Eco-Tourism".
Many believe that eco-tourism is world's best
hope to save our fragile eco-systems.
Malaysia has become one of the most popular
eco-tourism destinations in the world, capable
of providing many interesting spots for the
adventurous youths who seek excitement in
educational recreations and entertainments.
6.1.1
CLIMBING THE MT. KINABALU
In response to popular demand, SSEAYP International
Travel Network (SITNET), will be organising
a second expedition to Mt. Kinabalu this year.
This has become an annual event of SSEAYP
International (SI) organised by SITNET secretariat
based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
6.1.2
ISLANDS-HOPPPING
One fortunate aspect of Malaysia's island
vacation destination is their accessibility.
Take Pulau Gaya, for instance, it is an island
within a cluster of five just a short 30-minute
hop from the sea front of Kota Kinabalu and
located in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park sprawling
over 4,900 hectares. The island's tourist
attraction, Gayana EcoResort offers lush tropical
forest and the emerald of South-China Sea.
The other four islands - Sulug, Manukan, Mamutik
and Sapi - are equally as good, if not better
than Pulau Gaya.
Island-hopping is almost "unavoidable".
Take in the different characters of the islands
- the colours, shapes and flavor. These island
visits makes a perfect ending for those who
make trips to the famed Mount Kinabalu or
Sabah's untouched interior.
6.1.3
SCUBA DIVING & SNORKLING AT TIOMAN ISLAND
This new program was introduced last year,2001,
has become very popular among the ex-Pys.
It is expected to be held this year in the
month of July.
