Notice is hereby given that the 14th Biennial General Meeting of SSEAYP International Singapore will be held on Saturday, 17 January 2009, 5.30pm at Singtel Recreation Club, 31 Exeter Road, Comcentre Basement 2, Singapore 239732. The minutes of the 13th Biennial General Meeting and the Biennial Report are attached below.

Due to the high cost of printing and mailing of our Biennial Report, the Executive Board is requesting that members who would like to receive a complete copy of the Biennial Report should indicate in this form and return it to reach the VP, Admin before 13 January 2009. Copies of the Report will be available for viewing at the office of NYC and distributed at the 14th BGM. The report is also available online here.

Nomination of Candidates for election to the SSEAYP International Singapore 14th Executive Board for the term 2009/2010 will open on Wednesday, 3 December 2008 and must be made in prescribed form obtainable from the National Youth Council, Blk 490 Toa Payoh Lorong 6,HDB Hub Biz Three #06-10, Singapore 310490 between 9.00am and 5.00pm (Monday to Friday) or downloaded from our SIS website.

Please note that NO PROXY is allowed for submission of the nomination forms. Book Donation Drive for Project Khong Lam 2008

Dear SIS Members,

Elson is organising a book donation drive from SIS alumni members towards the contribution for the new library in a village school on Khong Island, Pakse Province, LAO PDR. All new, old, used books should be in English language and suitable for children aged 5-18 years old.

Please contact Elson at 8233 6889 if you wish to donate the storybooks or volunteer in any areas. Once contacted, his team will be collecting the books from your house. The collection shall ends on Sunday, 14th December 2008.

Project Khong Lam 2008

Director, Travel Network, Elson Lee is organising a Overseas Community Service Project to Laos. Interested member can refer to the following email for more details:

Dear SIS Members,

Elson will be organising a Overseas Community Service Project to Laos. Project Khong Lam is a 12-day long SI Community Service project. The objectives is to construct a school library at Khong Lam Island and transferring soft skills to the Lao students. The Organising Committee hopes to gather a pool of interested Ex-PYs from various batches to come forward and join in this meaningful project.

Through this project, his team will be applying for the Singapore ASEAN Youth Fund, of which 70% of the total project cost will be sponsored while the other 30% will be self-funded or fund-raised through personal means. Elson will also organise a book donation drive to collect old and unwanted storybooks to Khong Lam School Library.

Theme Name: Project Khong Lam 2008
Duration: 23rd December 2008 - 3rd Janauary 2009
Venue: Khong Lam Island, Pakse province, Lao PDR
Closing date to apply: 31st October 2008

However, there are 3 criterias to follow:
- must be an ASEAN youth aged 15 - 35 years old
- must be committed in the duration of the project
- must contribute 30% of the total project cost, estimated at USD$300 (as 70% will be sponsored by the S'pore ASEAN Youth Fund)

Please take note that all meals, accomodations, transportations (including air-tickets) will be covered throughout the 12-day long duration. As 70% of the total project cost will be sponsored by the Singapore ASEAN Youth Fund, it is compulsory for the Ex-PYs to contribute the other 30% for the total project cost. Travel Insurance is to be bought from your own country and will be later reimbursed with official receipt.

Overseas Reunion 2008

As Nippon Maru is not calling our port this year, Director, Homestay/International Affairs, Imhar Said is consolidating interests for members who wish to attend overseas reunion! Interested member can refer to the following email for more details:

Dear SIS Members,

The ship is not calling to Singapore Port this year. Hence, during the board meeting sometimes ago, I did mentioned that we will be joining the reunion overseas.

I have and in the midst of planning to be in Ho Chi Minh City this year. I have emailed IYEO, they have responded and is not at all against us visiting the Port of call for Reunion to those who are interested. Ms Nippon Maru will be visiting the following countries :-

1) 6 - 9th November 2008 - Muara Port - Brunei
2) 12 - 15th November 2008 Jakarta
3) 19 - 23rd Novembre 2008 Bangkok
4) 26 - 29th November 2008 Ho Chih Min City
5) 2 - 5th December 2008 Manila

I have also written to them with regards to some who are keen and to be with during the local program. There will be limited capacity, please allow yourself sometime and if you would like to be with us to Vietnam.

Decided to leave early for a group to be in Vietnam. For those who are keen to be with us, please take note on the date of departure. Limited to only 20 participants.

Again will be on budget airline to safe cost. I will be working on the budget soon.

25th November 2008 departure (will be looking for budget hotel near the port)
Will plan some places of interest to visit and including shopping, apart from following some of the local program in Vietnam. This await reply from CYDECO.

30th November 2008 will depart for Singapore.

For host families who are keen to be with us, you are welcome, but I am not able to promise you to be on Board Ship for the Reunion. This session is only open to past participants of the program. We will make some necessary arrangements instead.

For past participants of SSEAYP, if you are keen to join the Reunion in any of the port besides Vietnam, please advise me as I need to compile your name and to have the registration proper for the SI in respective countries and to keep IYEO in the loop.

SIGA is around the corner and as part of the REN program initiative, some ex- ren participants are organizing a community service project in Cebu between 1st to 4th May 2008.

The community service project is divided into 3 parts, namely
1) Lifeskills training to Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (1 May 2008)
2) Team building workshop at Mangabon Elementary School (4 May 2008)
3) Book Donation to Mangabon Elementary School

We would like to solicit your help with the book donation exercise in the following ways:
- Collection of English Books (between 3rd April to 18th April)
- Sort and Pack Books (weekend of 19th/20th April)
- Assist to carry the packed boxes to Cebu (for those going for SIGA)
- Provide packing boxes

What type of books do we need?
- English language Primary school textbooks and readers (Subject: English, Maths and Science)
- English language storybooks

Additional information about Mangabon Elementary School

"There are more than 200 children attending classes in this school from the neighboring mountain barangays of the area, most of them have to walk for an hour or more just to reach this school. Malnutrition and other health problems are the usual concerns of the children in this school which can be directly related to the economic condition of their families relying only on farming as the main source of livelihood.

The community where the school belong has no access to electricity, this made the children so behind as far as multi media education approach concerned. Teachers really solely on workbooks and textbooks as their teaching tools but unfortunately thier books are not enough for the children in their school. The ratio of books to children is 1: 3, not to mention some of them are outdated books. So many factors can be identified to have caused this condition, but the fact that the books you will be giving to this children will surely benefit them without doubt. "

e. Approximately over 25 and under 40 years of age
f. It is preferable to have a good command of Japanese for a daily conversation, in case of those whose mother tongue is not Japanese

Thank you for your contributions and participation in the Social Contribution Activity in Siem Reap, Cambodia - pre-SIGA 07 project.

This time, we are organizing a 1.5 day Social Contribution Activity (SCA) in Cebu from 30 Apr 08 to 1 May 08 - a pre-SIGA 08 event to enable SIS members to engage in overseas community involvement projects.

We will be partnering with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (www.rafi.org.ph). The event will cover lifeskills training (day 1) and materials donation and activities (day 2 - till lunch time).

If you refer to the SIGA 2008 Cebu Registration Form, we are requesting all participants to please submit a colored photo (size: 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches). You can either scan-copy-paste your photo or you can send it thru snail mail, addressed to: SSEAYP International Philippines, P.O. The Waterfront Hotel Security and SIGA Cebu Admin Committee is requesting everyone to submit a colored photo (for all participants, including all SIGA Cebu Working Committee members) so that it will be easier to monitor all participants. HOMESTAY

Our sincere apologies, due to logistical limitations, we cannot offer Homestay after May 4, 2008.

TOUR PACKAGES

Various tour packages before and after the conference may be organized for willing travelers. Secretariat Committee will post the tour packages very soon.

All participants are advised to obtain the necessary insurance during the entire stay in Cebu City

All nationalities (Japan & Asean) need not apply for a travel visa to enter the Philippines

Kidz Handicraft Workshop for Z Gen Networkers in March 2006

Dear Alumni members of SIS,

Last October, SIS started recruiting children of Alumni Members to form the Bamboo Network of the Z Generation. Today, Bamboo Network has about 60 members. The matching of the children among the SSEAYP nations will take place shortly.

To kick start the series of activities for Bamboo networkers and to encourage all children of Alumni members who have yet to sign up, we are organizing a handicraft workshop in the coming March school holiday period.

Objective of the workshop:

To let children learn some simple handicrafts of our multi-racial community.
To promote awareness of kids pen-pal project for SIS through gift exchange (some of the handicrafts made would to given to children of other 10 participating SSEAYP nations).

A couple of us recently attended the 21st Century Renaissance Youth Invitation Program in Japan and during that program, we were introduced to this project started by the Ship for World Youth Alumni. This year, the SSEAYP Alumni members are invited to participate in this contest and we would like to share the details of this contest with you and also encourage you to participate in this contest.

In summary, the aim of the project is
- To encourage active participation of the Ship for World Youth Alumni Association (SWYAA) and the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program International (SI)
- To provide an opportunity to "meet" across the countries, across the batches and across the programs.
- To let communities know more about SWY/SWYAA and SSEAYP/SI and their respective activities.
- To use the photos collected as a tool for international understanding

So how can you participate?
1) As an applicant by submitting your photos - print or digital (The deadline is 31 December 2005)
2) As a Voter - to vote for the best 30 photos (To commence in February 2006)

According to IYEO:

Countries which will not have their own alumni reunions on board this year (i.e., Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar and Singapore) may join the alumni reunions of the other countries. Each of these countries shall be provided with fifty (50) boarding passes for distribution to their alumni members.

The above said countries are requested to provide the IYEO and the reunion host countries with the final list of their members who will be participating in the reunion of which particular country. Necessary transportation and accommodation shall be at the personal expense of the attending members. Reunion Host countries are responsible for providing further information such as port entrance procedures etc.
It was also suggested by the administration that the following pairing might be the most convenient for both participating guests and reunion host countries.

- Singapore ex-PYs -> Malaysia reunion
- Laos ex-PYs -> Thai reunion
- Cambodian ex-PYs -> Vietnam reunion
- Indonesia ex-PYs -> Malaysia reunion
- Myanmar ex-PYs -> Thai reunion

For different pairing, please contact IYEO for further arrangement. However the number of boarding passes given to each AA (50) shall not be increased.
