Our Alumni Happenings...

Thank You for all your support!!!

At the recent March Council of Presidents’ Meeting in Tokyo, Ms Reiko Ohashi, the Deputy Secretary General of SSEAYP International Secretariat, reported that the total amount collected for the SI Memorial Fund is US$6029.

Ms Ohashi highlighted that scholarships would be presented for a period of three years to the children of the late National Leaders of Malaysia and Indonesia, who died in the tragic accident in Brunei during SSEAYP 2001.

US$540 will be given to the three children of the late Indonesian NL and US$1400 will be given to the four children of the late Malaysian NL.

Our heartfelt thanks to all SIS members for your contribution during our Reunion Dinner 2002. By the end of the fun-filled event, a total of US$2786 was collected from our SIS members for this fund. This was made possible from the collection of registration fees for the reunion plus... the high-powered crooning of our very own SIS President, Tan Soon Hoe’s spectacular Hokkien oldies…

Together… we definitely can make a difference!!!

HOMESTAY INITIATIVE - ACROSS THE MILLENNIUM
by Ms Jenny Koh

It has been Singapore’s tradition for PYs to manage the homestay operations the following year on completion of their SSEAYP programme. Current year PYs contribute to host family recruitment by providing a minimum of three families.

To simplify the process, SPYs 1998 presented the long term direction of the SIS Homestay Programme, which has been endorsed by the SIS Executive Board.

The Homestay Protem Committee, in collaboration with SSEAYP 2001, managed its first assignment successfully during the 29th SSEAYP 2002.

The responsibilities of the Homestay Protem Committee, comprising XPYs and veteran host families, include recruiting host families, conducting pre-homestay briefing to host families, sourcing for souvenirs to host families and also the logistics for homestay matching ceremony.

It is also the agenda of this synergy team to facilitate the maintenance of the long term relationships of host families and their fostered foreign “children”.
